All Stars
SABA typically forms 3 post season all star teams which compete in about 3 tournaments in the extended Bay Area from the end of the regular season to mid/end of July. A 12u and an 11u team is selected from the majors division and a 10u from the minors. (A player who was 8 on April 30 during the season is not eligible for all stars.) The selection process. Each manager nominates players from his/her team based on the player's on-field performance, attitude & sportsmanship. Managers then vote for the 12 players whom they feel are best qualified from the pool of nominated players. Players with the most votes and who receive votes from more than half the managers make the team. Each team may not be represented on an all star team, and on the other hand one team may have 3, 4 or 5 players (maybe more) selected to the all star team. A few alternates, usually 2 - 4, also are typically nominated to the team. Alternates are not guaranteed any playing time, but are welcome an encouraged to participate in practices. Players selected to the team are notified after the end of season championship games. Practices: Teams typically hold three 2-hour practices per week, but the length and frequency of the practices is really up to the manager. Tournaments: In the past, we have participated in tournaments at Manteca's Big League Dream Park, Sunnyvale (Twin Creeks), Fremont, Concord, Foster City, and Rohnert Park. We also host a tournament at Memorial Park in mid/late July which ends our all star season. Costs: There is an additional cost to play all stars. Alternates pay a reduced fee which covers their shirts, pants and hats.
